Progressive PAL & NTSC offered out of the box could make this the DVD player of choice depending on whether the Sony has the Chroma bug or not. The only competition is the Flagship Denon DVD player which is coming.
    - ES DVD/SACD Multi Channel Player with dual PAL/NTSC Progressive Output
    - Precision Drive 2 with FX mechanism
    - DVD-Video, Video-CD, CD Playback
    - Super Audio CD Multi Channel Playback
    - CD-R, CD-RW & MP-3 Playback
    - DVD-R, DVD-RW (Video Mode), DVD+RW Playback
    - DVD-RW (VR Mode) Playback
    - Picture Navigation
    - MP3 Browser
    - Video Equaliser
    - VC Digital Filter

Somehow I doubt they'll make this exact model available in the States, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Sony is supposed to be releasing a new ES progressive-scan DVD player in the US that I assume will offer multi-channel SACD and, thus, replace the DVP-S9000ES. I assume this is why the price of the 'NS900V dropped only a few short months after being released. The player shown on the Italian web site is probably very similar to the player that will be released in the US. However, I seriously doubt the US version of this new ES player will offer PAL video output. Also, the US version will probably be black.

I find it interesting that the player shown on the Italian web site is said to offer MP3 playback. I didn't expect that on a higher-end player.

Looks like an NS900v but with ES build quality and chipsets, etc....

    KeithH,
    Interesting post...[IMG]
    And the finish looks superb!
I received the new Perfect Vision magazine today and the Sony DVP-9000ES received a "Best Buy" recommendation in their DVD shoot-out. The Panny DVD-RP91 also got one as well.
Keep up the good detective work! and I didn't know you spoke Italian?!

Lee, note that I did not start this thread, though I did hear that Sony announced a new ES progressive-scan DVD player at the CES in January. The player on the Italian web site looks nice, but don't expect to see a gold player in the US. For some reason, many manufacturers still assume that US consumers only want black components. Duh.

Spero D., I've heard nothing more about the new ES DVD/SACD player. I'd love to hear more about it though because the 'S9000ES is looking very good for $800 at Tweeter.
