    Hello,
Does anyone have any idea when the "model year" starts for Sony?
Are there new models coming out in the near future?
Or failing that, when were the last models released?
    Thanks!

If I remeber correctly, the old models were released around last July, but I could be wrong...it was sometime during the summer.
I would also like to know when the newbies will hit shelves...with Wegas, new models usually means lower prices. I'd like to get a little 20" for my bedroom.

I believe he's talking about lower prices on the current models.

I recall hearing a release date around October for the new KD-34XBR2 (Sony's 2nd Gen Direct View HDTV set).
But then again, it'll be out when it's done.

That sounds like a 16x9 set in the $3k-$6k range, yes?

I just checked sony's website and the new sets are now up with specs. just go to www.sony.com and navigate through to the electronics home, tvs, and there you are. still don't know when they will be in stores though.

    BradZ-
Good info! I hadn't noticed that Sony had put info for the new TVs on their website already. I also hadn't heard of the KP-53HS20 and KP-61HS20 before, either. From what I can tell, there are only two differences between the xxHS20 and the xxHS30:
    xxHS20: RM-Y902 remote (like the xxHS10)
xxHS30: Adds Built-in High Contrast Protective Screen and has RM-Y908 remote
Also, the MSRPs for the new 4:3 HiScan sets are $200-$300 higher (depending on screen size) on the website than those announced in the press release. The MSRPs for the new 16:9 HiScan sets are each $500 higher than the press release!!

The web site that I found following BradZ's description does list a number of new TVs but (unless I've missed something) it doesn't list the TVs that Sony announced in February for late summer or fall release (not surprisingly). I'm talking about sets like the 51" and 57" HW40s or the XBR2s with built in HDTV tuners and 5C firewire connections; on the latter, see

Do you have to register to get product information from the Sony site?
    Thanks

Mike, you don't have to register. Just visit http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/
BTW, does anybody else notice the broken link found under the 'hdtv xbr' subsection of the XBR area? Hmmm, maybe Sony didn't finalize the KD-34XBR2's specs before they re-did their site.
To answer someone's question from earlier about the price of the 34XBR, I think I heard that it will be priced under $4000.
