Sony vs. Toshiba RPTVs: Which is better? (1 Viewer)

I've been considering the Toshiba 42 and 50HDX82, and now on the recommendation of a friend, a Sony RPTV of comparable size and price. Can anyone tell me the major differences of the brands? I've always been under the impression that between the two, Sony makes better tube TVs (the Vega XBR), while Toshiba made better rear projection tvs (Cinema Series). I've heard that it's just a matter of opinion and preference, but I think it has more to do with the quality of the parts inside.

Do people agree with this? I'd love to hear opinions.

Neither marque is clearly superior to the other in either the RPTV or direct-view flavors. Each has certain strengths and weaknesses. After calibration, Toshiba looks a lot like Sony and Sony looks a lot like Toshiba. Either way, you win.
