I seem to recall reading once upon a time that input selection on Sony TVs can be done directly, i.e. without repeatedly hitting the TV/video button. Can someone enlighten me on this?

You need a remote that can generate the needed signals. (they are called "discrete" codes or commands) Sony actually had a few with some direct inputs but that was many years ago. A One-For-All brand universal can generate most of them using "Advanced Codes" which can also be assigned to specific keys using "Keymoves".

If you get one that is "JP1" enabled then you can do it more easily and to greater sophistication. There are other high end remotes that can do it also but I prefer a $20 remote with full computer interfacing to a $100 - $700 unit.

    Thanks.
The workaround seems to be Channel Up (or Down), which takes me to "TV" and then "TV/Input" X number of times to get to the desired input. Elegant, no, but it works.

    Edit: "TV/Input" should read "TV/Video."
