I can't beleive it, after weeks and months looking for a minisystem/receiver, I finally decide on the Sony STR-DE985 which every store seems to have in silver, but I went to my local sony store and the guy said that model is only available in black and I won't find it in silver!

    Is this true?

I really want that model but I also want it in silver, not black.

    Thanks

But the guy at the sony store was convinced it wasn't available in silver, I even asked him 2-3 times, what should I tell him? I really want to get it from that store cause the guy helped me a lot but he says that model isn't available in silver.

If they really don't have it in silver, could they at least order one?

    What should I do?

    Thanks

I would print out the page from the Sony site and show it to him. If he still can't get it for you, then you have to decide if you're willing to go elsewhere to get the silver one or if you'll settle for the black one.

I'm sure the guy at the sony store would give me 10% off the total price with the speakers plus I can't get an extended warranty if I get it online since they are normally only applicable if shipped to the country of the store and I'm in canada.

OMG! I just looked on Sony.ca and they seem to only have it in black!
Does this mean the silver model isn't available in canada? [IMG]

I may get it online but do you recommend getting an extended warranty on this? Does it break easily? Is it expensive to get fixed?

    Thanks

Sony has one thing going for them as far as I am concerned. Reliability! You do not need an extended warranty!

I hope Receivers aren't to the level where we think about which one is the cheapest to get fixed.[IMG]

Also, if I get it online and need to get it fixed, can I bring it to my local sony store or what?

    Thanks

No. After the store warranty runs out you will need to contact Sony directly.

If I order it on ebay from USA, will the 2 year manufacturer warranty apply to me if I am in canada?

    Thanks

Now that I think of it, I like how the black 885 looks (I'm getting the 985 but they dont have it in black on crutchfeild).

Do you think I should get the black one in the store tomorow, or order a silver one online with will end up costing about the same after taxes/shipping.

I really wanted the silver, but now I think I like the black one better for some reason.

Which do you prefer? What should I do?

    Thanks

I like black. Heres what you do, buy the sony 3 piece speaker package-front 2 surrounds. Then buy the 2 fronts sony. mhb100s

    sscr305-99.99
    mhb100-49.99
    sawm40-134.99
    str-de985-325.00

    This will rock your world!

Would those speakers be better than the small sony kit of 5.1 speakers for $300?

The mhb100 doesnt seem to be a valid model #, are you sure it's the right one?

    Thanks

    Hell Yea!

That sub is the best mid-level sub you can get.
The speakers are way better than those tiny ones.
    Have a good full sound.
Powered off my sub for the first time and listened to the movie sounded great. With those tiny speakers you cannot listen to your movie without the sub. My point is that you get a nice full bodied sound. Hope this helps!

I think I will get the kit since getting the speakers seperatly would be a bit more expensive and Even the kit and receiver are streching my budget a bit.

I will upgrade the speakers later, would changing just the front left & right ones make a big difference or should I change them all?

    Thanks
