I just purchased the sony 7100es AVR, I want to now put an amp on it, Im new to the external amp deal, so my question is, how do I install this amp on this receiver. The speakers I want it to push are the Polk RTi12s, Polk Audio FXi5 surrounds and the CSi5 Center. Please advise, I want to get one amp that can handle this workload and spend less than 1k. I just want a little more punch, nothing too over powering. Thanks guys

The 7100 has digital amps. Using an external amp bypasses most of the reason to get the 7100 over it's cheaper cousins.

You need to connect the amp to the "pre-out" connections on the receiver, if you have them, if not, can't be done.

I have an STR-DA777ES with an Aragon 8008X5 (5X 200 W @ 8 ohms, 5X 400 W @ 4 ohms). Made a world of improvement over the receiver amps, but much more expensive than 1K. If you are looking for a 2 channel amp, I recommend any Aragon 4000 or 8000 series amps, 8000 preferred. They can be had on ebay and audiogon.com around your budgeted price.
