I am seriously considering taking the 5ES plunge. I currently have a 50ES that I would like to upgrade to PLII, etc. So my question is, when I get the 5ES, how do I best listen to music cds (ie which settings should be on/off on the receiver?) Thanks!

I don't really use DPLII or NEO for music that much. I use auto format exclusively and that gives me front, right, and sub. I usually don't apply EQ unless source is bad!

I guess Im not much of a stereo fan I always use mine in PLII for music,IMHO the NEO6 just sucks I have used it a couple of times & it over emphasizes the center & you can hardly hear the rear center at all.

Personally, and since I am using the Sony XA777ES SACD/CD player - I use ONLY 2ch Analog Direct, as well as Muti Analog Direct.

I never let any DSP touch the music from either the PHONO input or the CD/SACD input.

I listen to 2 channel stereo the most and I DO use my eq. I've tried it both ways and I just like using the eq the best. My only complaint about this is that when you mess around with the eq (like say setting everything at around 10) is that it tends to make your speakers hiss. That's my only complaint about the DA5ES. Oh and yes dts:neo is garbage. All and all it's a great product and is built like a tank and it's upgradeable which is a nice feature.

Try PL II music. Set the center to the widest setting to eliminate the center channel, or just one notch in for a little center. I turn panorama off and set dimension to one notch over from "f" or front to take most signal out of the surrounds. To me, this sounds like 2 channel stereo imaging, just a little fuller. The nice thing about PL II music is that it's tweakable, whereas neo 6 is not. I do use neo 6 cinema for 2 channel video sources. Have fun!
