Hi!
I have several of these units. All are new (not B stock) in the sealed box. These are great units, built in AC-3 demodulator for LDs and also an addition 4 digital inputs. Output is 5.1 DD decoded. Comes with remote, and all accessories.
The new units are $149 each, and come with Sony USA warranty card.
Shipping is extra.
Send me an email if interested.

The Sony SDP-E800 Dolby Digital Processor represents a remarkable value for converting your system to the latest surround sound technology. It uses full 24-bit processing and Sony's proprietary hybrid pulse digital-to-analog converters for clean, accurate sound. It senses the appropriate surround mode for the source you've selected and switches automatically. Sony builds in its Digital Cinema Sound System, which some listeners will find enhances the theater experience by simulating film studio dubbing stages. For the fullest enjoyment of Dolby Digital, Sony allows you to adjust which speakers receive the lowest bass, and the frequency at which the adapter directs the bass to the subwoofer(s) or low frequency effects speaker. The true digital volume control does not degrade sound quality, as some poorly designed digital volume controls might. Best of all, a computer software-like set-up "wizard" guides you through installation.
For use with Receivers or Amplifiers equipped with 5.1-channel inputs
Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic decoding
24-bit digital processing

Virtual 3D processing
Hybrid Pulse D/A Converters
Individual speaker adjustment and setup
Speaker Size Setup with Bass Redirection
Digital Crossover Control
Three Optical Digital Inputs
One Coaxial Digital Input
One Dolby Digital RF Input for Laserdisc players Karaoke
5 Digital Video Inputs: 3 analog, 2 Digital
Full function Remote Control and manual
Full Warranty
This processor allows you to connect up to 3 digital audio source components, such as a DVD player, a laserdisc player with AC-3 RF output, a CD player, and a minidisc or DAT deck. There are 3 optical inputs, 1 coaxial digital input, and 1 AC-3 RF input. There is one optical digital output so that the digital signal may be input to a minidisc or DAT deck. There is a video input for each digital input that is switched with the audio signal. There is also a single analog audio input. The decoded digital signal is output to your multi-channel amplifier via 6 discrete channels (left, center, right, left rear, right rear, and subwoofer). There are 26 customizable sound fields that let you simulate the sound of anything from a stadium, to a movie theater, to an opera house, and much much more. And best of all, it is easy to operate.
Features
Dolby Digital (AC-3 ) decoding for surround sound that is far more dynamic, spacious and realistic; generates 5.1 separate channels of line-level sound for Left, Right, Center, Left Surround, Right Surround and Subwoofer
Digital Dolby Pro Logic surround decoding brings home all the excitement and emotional impact of movie sound tracks; decodes and amplifies all the surround channels already encoded in most movie videocassettes, many TV dramas and sports broadcasts
Automatic processing selection senses when the incoming signal is Dolby Digital encoded and automatically applies the correct decoding; for conventional PCM digital audio, defaults to Dolby Pro Logic decoding
Digital Cinema Sound system -a Sony exclusive that recreates the precise acoustics of real movie production dubbing stages at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California; you'll hear movies the way the producers and directors heard them
Digital Cinema Sound 3D processing overcomes limitations in rear speaker placement with Virtual Enhanced Surround, Virtual Rear Shift and Virtual Multi Rear effects
24-bit digital processing decodes the full dynamic range of Dolby Digital sound tracks; exceeds the processing capabilities of previous Dolby Digital decoders; uses 53rd-order x2 FIR filtering for superlative accuracy; performs 44 million digital calculations every second
Speaker size setup with bass redirection compensates for inability of many rear speakers to handle the full 20 to 20,000 Hz frequency response of Dolby Digital surround channels; redirects surround bass to the front speakers or subwoofer; 16 possible settings for complete system flexibility
Rear-channel stereo
Six-channel test tone for system alignment
Digital crossover control with five crossover frequencies for bass redirection
Digital "i" volume control regulates current to achieve a full 20 bits of resolution at every volume level
Digital balance control for superior accuracy
Independent digital bass and treble controls for front, center and surround channels
Pulse D/A Converter minimizes zero-cross distortion, considered by researchers to be the most audible distortion in CD players; the result is remarkably smooth, open sound-even during delicate quiet passages
8x oversampling digital filter for better stereo imaging, greater accuracy
Set-up Wizard steps you through the process of initial set-up; makes sophisticated adjustments easy
20-character dot matrix display for accurate, informative function readouts
Motorized master volume control with indicator LED
Three Optical Digital Inputs to accommodate DVD Players and other Dolby Digital sources
Single Optical Digital Output for high-quality digital-to-digital connections
Dolby Digital RF Input for Dolby Digital decoding with compatible Laserdisc players

Does this unit pass on a DTS signal via the optical output? I'd like to be able to hook up the AC-3 RF out on my LD player as well as the optical PCM (for DTS)? There by only using one optical input on my receiver.

Yes it does. In addition, because this small unit has an additional 4 digital inputs you can hook up multiple digital sources to be connected into one input on your receiver.

Hi Gregg,
I think I'd be interested in the used unit. I have an older Sony DPL receiver with a 5.1 input, so I could use this unit to acheive dolby digital via coax or optical? If so, I am very interested. I am right around Bangor, so I am not very far from you. I tried to email you, but it wouldnt work....If you could email me at [email protected] I'd really appreciate it.

Greg:
Will the unit operate as a stand alone AC3 RF Demodulator? Meaning, AC3 RF out from my LD player, to your Sony Unit, digital out to my prepro.
Let me know.
Thanks.

Thanks Jerry!!
I think $150 for a demodulator that can also act as a digital audio switcher for 3 additional devices is one heck of a deal :)

Charles, I have not heard back from you???
Ive sold a couple more, and still have several left. These units are a great value and about the same size as a standard Pioneer demod.
