Sony SAT HD1000 DSS Receiver (1 Viewer)

I plan to upgrade to HD with DD in a couple months. I currently have a Sony AD2 DSS Receiver, and the RF remote (RM-Y130) has stopped working on the DSS, but works on the TV. I believe the problem lies in the AD2 receiver because another Sony remote (RM-Y137) also will not work on controlling the DSS.
Does it make sense to buy the Sony SAT HD1000 now to solve my remote control problem? Is the Sony HD1000 a good choice for a DSS receiver? Are there any known major innovations coming in the next couple months? If the Sony makes sense, is $800 a decent price?

$800 is list, but I'm not sure how much cheaper you can get it.
Reviews on the HD100 are very mixed. Some people like it, others hate it. If you look at the AVS HDTV forum, you will see lots of comments.
