I have an eight month old Sony KDS-R50XBR1 LCoS TV. In the last couple of weeks, I've noticed a "blob" of slight yellow tint about 10" in diameter at the lower edge of the screen about 1/4 of the screen width from the right.

It stays there consistently, and is usually only visible over a gray picture area, such as seen with black and white images. It is always visible when watching 4x3 pictures in the gray area to the right of the 4x3 image.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this, and how to fix it?

    Thanks,

sounds like what a magnet will do to a CRT

do you have unshielded speakers near the set?

    Hi Adam--

I have a Klipsch center channel speaker on a shelf below the TV, but it should be shielded adequately. I tried removing it to look for a difference, but found none.

And Tony-- pardon my ignorance, but what is avs, and how can I search for that info?

    Thanks,

Thanks, Tony. I found the site... there is a wealth of info about the Sony XBRs there. Awesome.

    Thanks,

No, it's an LCOS display, the issue is not related to magnetic fields.

    "greenblob" problem.

That's what I initially thought, too... How can a magnet affect an LCoS chip? But interestingly, Sony's troubleshooting website lists magnetic fields as a potential source of picture problems. I'm just not sure how.

The avs website has a huge thread on this topic... apparently many early examples of this TV suffer from the problem. The fix is to get Sony to replace the optical block under warranty.
