I just got the Sony DVD/VHS recorder RDR XV-530 and find some of the channels, like TCM and TNT, have this weird problem if I record something onto DVD. The picture keeping getting squeezed. First it's normal, then it's squeezed into a letterbox type shape, then it's normal, then it's squeezed...

My TV signal is provided by Direct TV and comes through a Phillips/TIVO recorder.

Is this some kind of weird copy protection? I thought TCM had an analog signal... can it still broadcast a copy protection signal?

Or did I get a lemon and should I ask for a replacement?

    Paula,

Since no one has replied I’m guessing no one’s seen this problem before. In light of that, I vote “lemon,” assuming the picture you’re getting on the TV from the TIVO is okay.

To doublecheck the TIVO, send the video cable you have connected to the DVD Recorder straight to the TV and see what happens.
