Anyone know why a Sony 1040Q turn on and then shut down shortly after?

How much is the bulb usage (estimate). Have you replaced the bulb before. What does the manual say is the symptom when the bulb is due?

Also, is there a cooling filter that could have become clogged with dust preventing the bulb from cooling properly, thus causing the pj to shut down?

Neil, it is a crt projector.
Joshua, is it getting power to the tubes? Are they turning on at all or is it shutting down before the tubes fire up?

Neil, you mean you don't have every single model of projector memorized yet. I second the suggestion of avs forum, if someone there can't help you with a crt problem there is probably no hope.
