I'm surprised they're not waiting to see the grosses for the second film first. This strikes me as a possible case where the first film was quite successful, but people may not be clamoring for a sequel (see also Gremlins 2 and Addams Family Values).

Then again, in today's environment, if the sequel tanks they can probably mostly break even by selling off the third film to a streamer.

I’m game! I was definitely surprised at how good the first one was, and the second was also very fun, even if it lacked the “surprise” factor the first one had. Will be interesting what they do with Dr. Robotnik considering Jim Carrey’s announcement of retirement.
