Somewhere in Time Re-re-release? (MERGED THREAD) (1 Viewer)

Im surprised there wasn't already a thread about this with current events in mind, but does anyone think we might actually have a shot at a proper 16x9 remastered Somewhere in Time DVD?

I know this is Universal we're talking about here, but I would love to own this movie and see it in all its anamorphic glory!

There's 6 sales here. My mom and sisters all LOVE this film and have been waiting for a 16x9 treatment with added special features (like the yearly review at Grand Hotel).

I only hope they were adventurous enough to get some commentary from Christopher Reeve.

Why do studios not forsee this with actors and actresses of classic films? Once they pass ... a great loss in MANY ways.

I too wished I had a decent edition of this movie to spin yesterday... but I watched Superman instead.

I would have loved to watch Somewhere In Time instead however...

Guess it's time for me to finally watch the Collector's Edition I have. If it scales as well as some of the other Unviversal titles I have, it'll be okay.

Hope I can say the same for the mono soundtrack.

I need to pick up Noises Off yet too. Do you think Switching Channels will get a release soon?

So much for any special features with Reeve...still, Theresa Wright and Jane Seymour are still with us and could contribute additional material.

This is a film that NEEDS to be re-re-released just for a proper sound mix alone.

What the film lacks in story and premise, it more than makes up for with the beautiful soundtrack. I was disappointed in the DVD mix. It could have made the non-anamorphic purchase worthwhile.

Agreed Ernest, 100 percent. There's a real resonance and depth in how Reeve handles his character of the American ambassador that is unmatched even by the Man of Steel, IMHO. "You are all, politically...AMATEURS" was such a devastating line in the film, and he delivered with just the right amount of force.

He was critiquing them harshly with pity and knowing futility. Not an easy thing to do.

I was always a huge fan of Christopher Reeve as an actor, way before his accident. In fact, his fate as an actor introduced me to the notion of "typecasting" when I was a youngster. He was brilliant in Superman. Brilliant -- and why? Because of his fantastic portrayal of Clark Kent. And his utter conviction as Superman. He was incredible. Then Superman II comes out..."Blood...it's my blood." Wow. Then Somewhere in Time. Deathtrap. Monsignor. Street Smart. Later Superman sequels, not so good. Starring in a movie with Burt Reynolds in the late 80's...again, not so good. He's become a working actor, not a star.

Remains of the Day. Wow. Once again, Reeve reminds us of why he commands the frame. Of the great performances in that movie, and indeed the whole film is stuffed to bursting with brilliant performances, Reeve gave my favorite, and I said so back in 1993. I was disappointed he wasn't nominated for Supporting Actor. Reeve is as indelible in that movie as Hopkins and Thompson.

I've heard a number of people state that they're going to spin their Superman discs in the wake of Reeve's death as a rememberance.

You want to really honor him?

Go buy Somewhere in Time and Remains of the Day.

Universal could easily remix this film for stereo. The soundtrack CD IS the actual soundtrack of the film.

I won't argue with you on the soundtrack, because as everyone has stated, it is absolutely beautiful, but I think this movie has a very creative story that was executed very well.

For people that have never seen this movie, when I explain it to them as a love/romance story with a sci-fi twist, they're always amazed that there was a movie like that.

Not only that, the question of if he ever really did go back or if it was just a really convincing dream are intriguing. I am sure ALL of us have had a dream that was so real, when we woke up, we were a little confused if it really happened or not.

A great movie, and an all time classic. I was happy to see AMC aired it Monday night.

Nevertheless, I doubt Universal will give us the edition of this movie we all want, but maybe I can follow in Richard's footsteps and dream about it!

It is not anamorphic, and it's a crying shame it is not being revisited this year with upgraded a/v quality (as far as I know) for its 25th anniversary.

The docu is nice, and it's a wonderful film. If you can get it cheap and you're a fan of the film, it's worth picking up; otherwise, rent and hope for a suitable re-release (either on DVD or on whatever HD platter comes to market in the next 12-18 months).

One of my all time favorite films that I do not own because of this. Heck, I named my daughter 'Elise' after Jane's character in the film.

A couple of times I almost broke down and bought it, but having to zoom it on my 85" screen would look horrid.

he wrote the incredible shrinking man, i am legend, what dreams may come ,among others.

Let's put it this way. It's not just that it's non-anamorphic. It's an incredibly lousy non-anamorphic transfer. When talking about non-anamorphic transfers, they range the spectrum from The Abyss (good) to Somewhere in Time (bad).

My nickel's worth of free advice: avoid this disc.
