Okay, I'm looking for a reciever with as close to capabilities/performance of the AVR520, but with a lesser cost. It will be used for HT/music. Any brand, any suggestions, and with those, where can I get the best deal. All SERIOUS/COMPETENT/PRO advice is welcomed. I'm looking for something that wil beat the AVR520 and be a bit cheaper!

    Good Luck -

I don't think much will beat the 520 for flexibility, and future longevity. I luv mine.

    Edwin,

This is a tough one. I'm a diehard H/K fan but I like any equipment that performs well. I can't say that it would beat the 520 in sound (to my ears) but in terms of price, features, etc. the Sony 3ES is a great receiver with very capable amps. The 5ES is even better but I don't know about final pricing as compared to the 520. The newer ES's are out now so the 4ES would be the one most likely to beat or match the 520 price with those features. But I would still be looking for closeout stock on the 3 or 5 if it were me.
Aside from Marantz, these are the only other non-H/K units out there I find appealing in this class.

So what model from Marantz would compare/beat in price the HK AVR520?

6200 in price and the 7200 very close in price. Of course, if we're dealing only with authorized dealers, that may change. Some may comment on the 7200 and it's poor power testout at S&V but that was a very early unit and quite likely an anomaly. I've never seen anything like that afterwards. For Music, Marantz is best IMO. H/K is only slightly behind and this situation can flip-flop depending on models being compared, at least to my ears.

I love my Harman Kardon AVR 520. The price greatly varies on the internet and found it as low as $598 for a Factory Refurb or $630 brand new.
