It is already October and I love this time of the year. Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year and I really get into watching horror movies in October. What would you guys suggest? I am thinking about these three, what else would you say is worth the rental?
    1. Darkness Falls
    2. Dog Soldiers
    3. In the Mouth of Madness

I've never seen those as I'm more of a gothic/haunted house fan. I like The Others and Signs because of the eerie feeling that permeates them. I suggest one of those or try the recently released The Thing, which is probably the best horror film of the 50s. Small cast, excellent acting, and a perfect script. James Arness as the carrot is pretty good too. Suitably creepy score too. It's a fun film and this new release is very well done.

Yeah, I also really like Signs and The Others. Already own those two. Another movie that I thought was one of the scariest movies I have ever seen is The Ring, how good is the original Ringu?

Go for Dog Soldiers. Neat concept, well executed, and some nasty lookin doggies.

And one of the best uses of link sausage I've seen in a long time [IMG]

I also would recommend "Dog Soldiers." A great combination of war, horror, and action. Every Halloween, I invite a bunch of friend over and have a dinner and screen the George A. Romero "Dead" series. Pretty nice night of horror although this year I will still have to screen "Dawn of the Dead" in the VHS format. Might take a look at "Re-Animator" also. This Friday on the Sci-Fi channel, they are showing their original movie, and the return of Dr. Herbert West, in "Beyond Re-Animator." I am buying an S-VHS tape specifically to record this much anticipated (by me anyway)sequal.

dog soldiers is the one i'd recommend off that list as well.

darkness falls was a nice premise but wasn't executed as well as i had hoped. found myself cringing a lot more than i expected.

i'd try jeepers creepers too. that one was a surpise for me as to how much i enjoyed it. a very rare blind buy that i didn't regret.

    Give "May" a spin.

Not scary horror - but deep in your gut horror.

    Cheers,

I'm quite the horror fan as well, yet there are few films that hold up.
These are the ones that have made my cut:
    Exorcist 3
    The Shining
    Nightmare on Elm Street 1
    Halloween
    Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Blair Witch Project(not a typical movie production, but has a real feel to it through the first person perspective).
    Amityville Horror 1,2
    Sixth Sense(mild horror)
    House on Haunted Hill remake
    Wrong Turn(released later this month)

Don't let anyone fool you into believing that Phenomena is a scary or good movie. It's not. I learned that the hard way.
