I'm lucky because there's two IMAXes somewhat near me and one is reserved & one isn't. Since the one went reserved seating, I've been there once to see Dunkirk and that was because they had 70mm. I have to figure that the other will go reserved seating at some time in the near future.

The thing is - I don’t mind if I don’t succeed in getting my first choice of seats if I can get a fair crack at them. I just don’t understand why the onsale time has to be treated like a state secret.

I think for The Force Awakens they announced a time but then put them on sale two hours before that. If you trusted them you were out of the best seats.

I remember Fandango crashing during that on sale and being at work a five minute trip from the theater, so I just took my break then and went down and bought in person. That’s the only reason I had good seats for that one.

First, let me say that I completely understand where you are coming from and am not arguing at all that Disney should just announce the time, be through and be done with it.

However, I really think that the people making these decisions may not be thinking about the difficulties of reserved seating. Therefore, the time might not be a "trade secret" so much as something they just don't realize that they should mention. They should, but unless a reserved seating ticket costs more than non-reserved, they're going to get the same amount of money from you no matter where you sit.

Things like reserved seating are issues that the theater chains deal with, but not so much the studios, who just provide the films to the exhibitors. I just have a very difficult time imagining a Disney executive saying, "We're going to announce the on-sale date as May 4, but we can't announce the time!"

Same here, but not for the local IMAX. Although tickets are available in IMAX for Friday. All IMAX showings for my theater are in 2D :(.

Apparently different theaters are showing the film in either IMAX 2D or 3D.

Closest to me is 2D. I’ll check out the IMAX 3D showing soon after I suppose.

IMAX support for 3D has been declining over the past year or so. Although I am glad to see more 2D shows being offered because I can't handle 3D, I do think there should be a way to split the showtimes so everyone gets a chance to see it how they want.

If you bought your tickets on Fandango, you can get a refund and then purchase for IMAX 3D at a different theater if that's how you want to see the film for the fist time. You don't have to be stuck with 2D if you don't want to be.

I get all that. It’s just that usually my IMAX theater always offers IMAX 3D.

It looks like it's 2-D only at my IMAX. There's another IMAX near by that's split 3-D and 2-D though.

Both IMAX’s near me are of equal distance but the one I prefer is 2D for Solo. As I said I’ll check them both out.

I can't believe it but I'm considering going to the Fan Event since it's $18.50 (versus $20 for IMAX), it's an hour earlier (though that's not that big of a factor since even I'm not that impatient) and I can always go in IMAX another time.

Looks like they went on sale at midnight. I got mine for the whole family for Saturday afternoon. There were only 2 other seats selected for the theater/time.

I will likely also go on Friday, but I'll wait til they add shows earlier in the morning. (Went to a 9:45 for A:IW, which was nice.)

I'm in for the IMAX 2D fan event in White Marsh MD. $30 after fees and such but we get a poster, dice, popcorn and the most raucous fans!

I got my IMAX tickets today. I must have been the first in-person sale because the manager was ringing me up and he said he needed to make sure that they were even up for sale yet.

Every time tickets go on sale for a new Star Wars movie, I think how funny it would be to run up to the ticket window and shriek out "ARE THERE ANY MORE STAR WARS TICKETS?!!" but I never have the guts to commit to embarrassing myself that badly.

That was one thing that was also making me consider the Fan Event but I figure both will be pretty excited crowds.

A poster is an upgrade over what The Last Jedi got. I did the fan event for that one because I had a comp ticket to use and it didn't cost me anything. We got one of four sets of trading cards, including an offer to buy the other trading cards from Disney Movie Rewards for a shipping fee...instead of, I don't know, just giving us all of them to begin with at the theater. I would much rather have had the poster.

Personally, I would never actually pay for a fan event out of pocket because I don't want to encourage Disney's practice of jacking up prices.
