How does this player match up to others in it's price range? Specifically: how good is it's anamorphic downconversion, etc... Inquiring minds (like mine) would like to know. Thanks
the anamorphic downconversion of panasonics (and pioneers) tend to fall in between the sonys (too soft) and (older) toshibas (too sharp w/artifacts). The RV31 is a solid entry level player (no major flaws), and is a good value for around $150-$170 or so. I'd put its video output (interlaced) near the top, just slightly behind the RP91 and RA60 (both of which have a 10-bit, 54MHz video DAC, whereas the RV31 has a 10-bit, 27Mhz one) but way above the current JVCs using the mediamatics chip
