I'm about to start building some crossovers and am looking for a decent budget soldering iron. I have a $5 cheapie right now but I'm sure its not going to do what I need to for this project...so what do you suggest?

For simple passive crossover work I dont think you need anything real expensive, a Weller gun or equivalent that has a 2 into 1 tip (looks like this

Just picked up the Weller WES-50 and it is great! ..i know it is out of your price range (~$100), but it is just another vote for weller.
