Is the disc PAL or NTSC? Some Ruscios are and some aren't.

...since this is a Region 2 DVD, I assume it's PAL - - - BUT: RUSCICO plan to present their treasure trove of Russian movies in PAL as well as in NTSC editions - in fact, I understand two or three of the latter have been available in the USA for some time now...

...unfortunately, as of just five minutes ago the RUSCICO site is still without an English version (for peasants like me)...

    FYI :
...as of a few minutes ago, still no English translation for the RUSCICO site ... but their DVDs are also distributed in the USA by this company :
    http://www.st-p.com/edefault.asp?cat...s&whattype=new
...the titles listed are among those released by RUSCICO...
I believe you have to call them if you want to order.
    Thought I'd let you know...

Could someone post or provide a link to any reviews on this set, or email me privately? Solaris seems to disappear around here.

Can anybody with the French R2 version please advise which (if any) of the extras are in English, or have English subtitles?
    Many Thanks

Unfortunately, Amazon just E-mailed me to tell that R2 Solaris is not available anymore. It was pulled back due to technical problems. (?)

...yeah, got the same e-mail... so it's bye-bye R2 (PAL) Solaris - for now (one hopes...)
...incidentally, I read somewhere that the R0 (NTSC) discs (as sold in the USA) of Solaris and The Cranes Are Flying also have problems...

I still have not been able to find a store in germany that can get Solaris for me but the English Ruscico web site is much better now,and it has contact email addresses and lists which films are being worked on and which films are already out on DVD. Tomorrow I will give the email address of the german sales rep to my local video store that was trying to get the film for me. Here is the catlouge link for anyone who wants to check out which films are listed http://www.ruscico.com/catalogue_eng.php

Artificial Eye have announced "Solaris" for release in the UK on the 19 November:
    http://www.r2-dvd.org/article.jsp?se...articleId=2797
Apparently Solaris and Andrei Rublev "are the first in a series of Tarkovsky films to be released by Artificial Eye on DVD in the coming months".

...Solaris is still MIA in Region 2 (Europe) AFAIK... I have ordered (some from France, some from Spain) and received the following RUSCICO discs:
    - The Cranes Are Flying
    - Father Frost
    - Aladin or The Magic Lamp
    - Man or Amphibian
    - Viy or The Devil
    - Agony (Rasputin)
    - Ballad of a Soldier
    ...and yesterday ordered these titles:
    - Autumn Marathon
    - Be Yourself Among Strangers
...now I have to find the time to watch the damn things...

I haven't had any problems with the R0 NTSC Solaris DVD. All things considered, it is a nice anamorphic transfer with a few extras as a bonus. The NTSC version is however transfered from a PAL master, thus it has the PAL 4% speed up. It is also spread across two discs and when playing the 2nd disc you have to wade through the same set up procedures and anti-piracy warnings as when playing the 1st disc.
