I agree with Henry - Your Froggy is definitely a toad; you can tell by the bumps on the skin, which look like warts. Does he also make rapid short hops, as compared to long jumps? Frog skin is also wetter in appearance, since frogs have to spend more time in water than toads.

Unfortunately, I could not tell you exactly what species your toad is, since what guidebooks I have are over twenty years old, and deal with species in the Pacific Northwest.

I agree with Henry on his second point, too - excellent photography!

I would have thought that this time of year on the East Coast would still be too cold for frogs or toads to be out of hibernation... you learn new things every day!

thanks, the camera did all the work.

a toad, i guess should have huessed that myself.

i'll be leaving him near the creek so he can be outside again.

there have been some warm days around here lately.
    maybe that woke him up.

That was my concern from my first sight of the creature, Wart City! Luckily the best literature on the subject provides a sure cure for the affliction:
"You got to go all by yourself, to the middle of the woods, where you know there's a spunk-water stump, and just as it's midnight you back up against the stump and jam your hand in and say:

    Barley-corn, barley-corn, injun-meal shorts,
    Spunk-water, spunk-water, swaller these warts,
and then walk away quick, eleven steps, with your eyes shut, and then turn around three times and walk home without speaking to anybody. Because if you speak the charm's busted."

    Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

Of course, being in Hartford, Holadem knows all of this. [IMG]

Whoa, that quote brought back some serious memories, from the unlikeliest place you would imagine: The Tom Sawyer animated series, which was a HUGE part of my childhood. I got a lump in my throat when I saw the Mississipi river for the first time last summer. Granted it was in Illinois [IMG].

I never did read the book. Or visited his house for that matter.

    Sorry 'bout the hijack.
