There is a lot of buzz from people who want to watch the Superbowl in HDTV. HD-ready sets are being sold. Satellite systems, set top boxes, antennas, and installs are all hot topics. But after Sunday, it's over.
So what's the Next Big Thing that everyone will want to watch?
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (in 480P on Fox?)
The Oscars (will it even be broadcast in HD?)
    Something else? Your opinions?

I believe that sports in HD would convince a lot of people to make the move to HDTV. The interest in the Super Bowl and Masters golf tournament indicates this. Interest in higher end home electronics is more male oriented, and guys like sports.
I would think that regular and postseason NFL and college football, the NCAA basketball tournament, NBA playoffs and Major League Baseball postseason would draw a great deal of interest. Personally, I would also love to see the NHL in high definition, but interest in the NHL appears to be more regional.

I have a wonderful proof of this theorem but, with the 1536 kb/s bitrate DTS soundtrack, there is no room on the DVD to write it.

    Let's see...
NBA All-Star Game/Finals - Not likely since it's on NBC
Final Four - Possibility since it's CBS
NHL All-Star - Probably not since I think Fox has it.

The next big sporting event in HDTV is the NCAA Final Four in March, followed shortly by The Masters in April. It's no coincidence that both are on CBS.
Of course there will be new movies in HDTV on both HBO & Showtime in February, like The Green Mile & What Planet Are We On?
My personal favorite will be the new season of The Sopranos on HBO in HDTV, the premier is on March 4th.
And I should also mention that ABC just started the new season of NYPD Blue two weeks ago, with all episodes in HDTV.
The REALLY big news might be the formal announcement of the new HDTV sports channel that Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, is trying to get off the ground with DirecTV.
All in all, lots to look forward to in HDTV.

I'm trying to just take it one step at a time. However, after 6 months of HD my son calls me a HDTV junkie.
I was about to cancel Dish HBO (with a basket of SD channels) because I get HBO HD (no basket of SD channels) off cable. I simply have a difficult time going back to SD now... I had to leave it alone to appease the family.
Aside from sports, I'm hoping to see Discovery Home Theater soon. This should cross genders and spark maximum interest. The loop that Dishnetwork showed for a short time was beautiful.

The final four in HD would be very cool. I know I am reaching, but I would love to see some WNBA games in HD. I have heard that the Liberty games at MSG are done in HD. But the "holy grail".......mmm.... Are we landing a man on Mars anytime soon?

It's The Masters for me. I was fortunate enough to be there in 95 so when I bought my 56X81 last July I set April as my drop-dead date for a STB. I WILL be watching the Masters in HD this year.

CBS will be bringing the big W to all HDTV owners with March Madness. It will be a dipsy-doo-dunk-a-roo!
Tournament time will be awesome bay-beee! I can't wait!
