Heh. I had this sudden urge to play Sonic the other day. I had never had a Sega Genesis when I was a kid, but had played it several times in Radio Shack. No idea where the sudden urge came from, but I knew it'd be pretty cheap to satisfy. So after a few postings on local messageboards, I picked up a system in great shape (Genesis 2) for $25 CAN with Aladdin, Ecco and The Lion King. Sonic 1 for $5 and Sonic 2 for $3 finished the set for now.

Pretty darn cool. Especially sitting next to the SNES, which I'm using to play a copy of Chrono Trigger I found earlier this week. RETRO WEEK! Heh.

Now if only I could find someone who had the AV cables for Genesis. :)

Very nice, although I'd have to say that the copy of Crono Trigger is a better find than a Genesis. I've seen that game going for $80+ with just the cart in some places.

I too have never played the Sonic games (except for parts of Sonic adventure 1 and 2), so I've been toying with getting the GC compilation disc.

I'd own that Sonic compilation if the bloody disc had Sonic CD on it. As it stands, I may pick it up sometime in the future once the price goes down a slight. I notice Future Shop has it on for $54 plus tax, and I have a $25 gift card I haven't used yet, so who knows?

I've only spent any great deal of time with Sonic 2, but it was a damn fun little game and I especially loved the two player racing mode.

Good luck tracking down the Genesis Stereo AV cable. I lucked out and one of the Amazon sellers had brand new ones for like $3.99 several months ago (I just looked and they are gone now). You may want to try ebay (just make sure you get the stereo one as the mono one is pretty prevalent).

Hehe, I think I would just get an emulator and ROMs on the PC ;) But there is something nice about having the actual real thing, isn't there?

Yeah, I wanted the real deal. And I'm checking out the Sega-Parts page as we speak. Do any of you know any Canadian Sites for games (especially older ones) that has anywhere near the inventory of ebgames.com? My last ebgames order was for DC Skies of Arcadia. The customs "handling" cost ended up being 1/3 of the total cost of the game!! I believe the final total was something like 90 bucks. I was not a happy camper.

Bert etc., I know it's a well-known issue, but since it is not allowed for discussion here on the HTF, could you please not use this thread to discuss it, as I'd like to hear from other Genesis enthusiasts, particularly for part supplies. :) I'd rather it not get closed.

Bert-

That's a myth. It was ruled in court that ROMs are illegal. The only legal way to get them is if a company releases their own game as a ROM for free, if you purchase it as a back-up from the original company, or it you make it yourself. Getting a free ROM off the internet is illegal.

And even so, they're not supposed to be discussed.

Back to the topic, I have a Genesis somewhere, but it's broken and the controllers don't work well. It doesn't matter; I never got any good games for it (I missed out on the whole Sonic thing).
