I already have a Onkyo TX-SR500 that i plan to use.

i need to replace my KLH Speakers with better ones.

    any suggestions?

i was thinking 4 JBL s26IIs and a SII center with a velodyne VX-10 sub.

OMG jandr.com ran outta s26II speakers!

    any suggestions?

well are these good for audio becuase its going to be used for audio a whole lot of the time.

also are they any good, i never heard of anyone using these speakers.

and also the speakers don't have to be small.

the KLH that i have right now is the 3 way model and is enormous.

total budget is flexible but most definetly under 1000 bucks.

probably in the 500-600 range max.
for 5 speakers and a sub.

unless you can convince me that i should pay more.

i need money left for other stuff too!

edit: great tweeter doesn't have JBL

its a dorm room so definetly music.

    basically its like this

im goign to hook up these into my reciever

    ps2 via optical
    computer via spidf coax
    cdplayer/sacd player via analog 6
iriver ihp-120 mp3 player via optical

so yeah mainly for music and my console games
the quality of surrounds is really not all that important i suppose unless im watching a dvd.

so the mains and center are real important and so is the sub.

Then I would not get surrounds and put more money into the mains and sub.

yeah all those subs are already 400 dollars which is like almost using up all my money.

how do these bookshelves compare to bigger ones like the jbl s38ii or compareable polk speakers.

and does anyone know where i can find B&W speakers online?

throw out some good brands that i can go price hunting for.
all this handmade stuff makes me nervous.

Ted, how big is your dorm room?

If its as small as I think it might be, check out the Paradigm Cinema series ($746 4x Cinema70, Cinema CC, PDR-8, or the 90s with a PDR-10 for $906)

If you are gaming nowadays it might be a good idea to get surrounds as well [IMG]

Following some of the recommendations I've seen on here, I just picked up the JBL NSP1-II 5-speaker package from Buy.com for about $250 (just search for "nsp1"), and a Sony SA-WM500 sub for about $150 after shipping via Yahoo's shopping engine (Hypaudio.com, I think). Have them hooked to a Denon 1604...sounds wonderful with DVD's, music, and my Gamecube.

You might also look at the Klipsch Quintet package, though they were a bit too bright for my ears.

Maybe the Dayton 5.1 Home Theater System from Parts Express? Only $150 shipped, so you can spend the remaining $400-$500 on other stuff that college students need, like books and food.

    Ted,
Our shop still has some of the first generation Dahlquist QX series at half price if you're keen. Definitely best bang for the buck in my opinion.
