ANother version on 3/5 ! And this goes for other releases as well that come out multiple time with the "Definitive" edition just ahead.

It seems now I have to have a battle with myself trying to se into the future on whether the studio will Grace us with the end all version. Studios Take note I'm getting tired of this and I'm sure others are as well. My next Buying decision might just be a pass.

I recently went to see Bruce Campbell on his book tour. During the Q&A session, a voice from the back piped up, "How many times is Anchor Bay going to release Army of Darkness on DVD?"

Bruce responded quickly, "How much money do you have?"

The voice replied, "I'm tapped out."

    Bruce said, "Then we're done."

Well, I've been holding off buying Evil Dead for this reason... I never buy a DVD title unless I'm pretty certain I will not replace it.

I admit that Anchor Bay has a bad habit of rereleasing titles, but Universal and Columbia has also made some unnecessary reissues recently if you ask me.

LOL, you gotta love Bruce. Anyways, the amount of rereleases is getting ridiculous, but to be fair to AB they've only released a barebones version of Evil Dead, as Elite was the one who made the SE. As for how many times do you have to buy AoD...well, I have stuck with my 2 disc LE set, and have yet to see any reason why I should waste money on any further rereleases. Maybe if Anchor Bay ever put out a version of the director's cut with a GOOD transfer, I'd consider, but due to source materials I don't think they can.

Buy it until you don't find value in subsequent releases. I still do, so I still do.

I've been waiting patiently for the AB version to come out. Then that's it.

I have AB Evil Dead 2, and the DC director's Army Of Darkness then the AB Evil Dead 1.

    No more, no less.

Anyone want to bet that AB is going release a deluxe super duper tin of all three movies?

Is there any real reason (aside from the absolutely kickass limited edition cover) for me to pick up this disc if I've already got the Elite SE? The special features listed look to be about the same...are these new commentary tracks? Anybody know? I'd dearly love to get my hands on that cover, but if that's the only substantial difference between the new SE and the previous SE, it's not worth my $50.

Woody, the commentaries are the same as the on the Elite version...

However, you get a new sound mix, new WS-transfer, Within the Woods short film, and the LE should contain a documentary with Bruce Campbell, aside from the bad-ass packaging.

Is there any reason to pick the Elite disk already out?
    1) For the full screen version.
It seems like the current Anchor Bay release has a full frame transfer of quality simlar to that of the Elite SE.
    2) For the extras.
If the new SE has the Elite commentary tracks, are there any additional extras from the Elite version that won't be on the new Anchor Bay release?
I've searched, but I can't find a complete listing of the special features on the Elite disk.
    Thanks for the info.

Yea, sometimes youre better off waiting.

Ive been dying to buy Tron for 3 years now and Im glad I waited.

I almost bought Evil Dead awhile back and a couple days later the new version was announced.

I only have 1 DVD & 1 LD(blood red disc) of Evil Dead. 1 DVD of Evil Dead 2. 3 DVDs and 1 LD (captain supermarket) of Army of Darkness. I'll keep buying as long as they keep putting new stuff on there.

    Don't forget, this isn't a straight-forward 1.85:1 matting of the original 1.37:1 image.

This THX-approved transfer (which I'm certain won't be the same as the UK disc) has been carefully re-framed shot-by-shot personally by Bruce Campbell (Raimi handed over the reins to him while he worked on Spiderman), so no weirdly cramped compositions should occur.
