Last night, while watching the Lakers and Trailblazers, I got my first look at a couple of new NBA rules, and here's my impression: 1. 8 second rule - I don't like this as it seems like too little time to get the ball across half court. 10 seconds seemed fine to me, maybe I'll change my opinion later, though. 2. 3-second Illegal Defense - this rule seems to be arbitrarily called, I'm not sure I completely understand it. You're allowed to play zone, but not in the key? Overall it didn't seem to affect the Lakers too much (I'm in L.A.). But both teams complained about when rule #2 was called (it was called a couple of times on both teams).
