For a guilty pleasure film, I have to confess my
enthusiasm for buying the DVD went as limp as...well... [IMG]
when I learned it was pan-and-scan of a 2.35:1 film.

I don't even want to rent it as is...

I think that if anybody did admit to it they'd get kicked out of the forum. [IMG]

I cancelled my pre-order when I discovered the disc would be in pan & scan format.

Wouldn't have bought it even if it was OAR. If I wanna 'see' Daryl Hannah, I'll wait for At Play in the Fields of the Lord. [IMG]

Ok, I'll admit I bought it. Picked it up when Best Buy was having a big MGM sale. However, I haven't watched it. And, to be honest, I bought it for the scenery of Greece (which is all I remember of the film, having only seen it once in the 80s), not Darryl Hannah (who I've never really been a fan of).

I don't quite understand all the reluctance over buying it P&S. I mean, this is a movie that most people never have even seen letterboxed or in any other way since it did the majority of its business on video and cable (which were never letterboxed). Sure, it SHOULD have been letterboxed, and MGM really screwed that up. But it is also the only available version now.

And, it is a B title anyway, if it doesn't sell, it will probably be forgotten. I don't think they will get the point and rerelease it letterboxed. So, if you like it, get it now while you can.

I get wayyyyyy too frustrated knowing that I am missing half the movie to even enjoy it. I can't bring myself to buy one of my most beloved films ever....The Sting because it is Pan & Scam only. What Dave said above.

I wanted this film in my collection...I really did. In the early 80's when I was still a teenager, I used to watch this on pay-tv when nobody else was awake.[IMG] I loved the scenery. [IMG] Unfortunately, I will not accept pan & scan....sorry MGM, you're going to have to do better than that to get my money.[IMG]

Okay, we know the evils of pan and scan, and that most of us can't bring ourselves to cave into MGM's plan. What I want to know is how the image and sound quality are. I don't support nonOAR releases, but if the image quality is stunning, I may look for a used one (ie not helping the sales numbers). I want to know if this is an old transfer, or a new one.

Should we start a campaign to have this released OAR?
