EricBee you are correct! itwas the Carrie Fisher on the beach skit entitled Beach Blanket Bimbo! wow shocked none of the other SNL-ites here knew it. Once again Eric, bravo
The information that Bill posted is basically a working document with titles that haven't settled into their proper places. I've spoken to Broadway Video and they said it's not going to be in stores in August. I'm sure some of those sets will be released when TheBits' information says, but those are more likely to be the sets released before the next season airs, like Heroes, The Office...
I would actually hope that they don't go in order with the seasons...there are seasons I could live without but more likely than not I'd purchase any releases. But I'd love to have some of the Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, and even Will Ferrell era stuff and not have to wait 20 years for it.
I really hope the Mardi Gras special is included. And hopefully the Wrigley's ad too.
It's true that one season a year would be a bummer but the music rights for this show will likely be a nightmare. I'd rather wait a year between releases and have them done right then get them every 6 months to find they've been butchered. Quality. Not Quantity.
My guess is that they'll continue in chronological order at least until the 80-81 season. Of course the 5th season of the "classic years" aint so great as a chunk of the cast had left. But at least the women were given more of a chance to shine.
While I'm dissapointed that these sets are delegated to a once a year fourth quarter release,I'll be even more disappointed if the 1980-1981 season and the Dick Ebersol produced seasons aren't released.Seeing how NBC is no longer airing classic SNL,DVD is the only way we'll be able to see them. However,I won't be the slightest bit surprised if those seasons are skipped.
Seeing as Lorne Michaels is the driving force behind getting these DVDs released, I'd say the chances of those seasons being released is extremely slim. Things could change in a few years, but I doubt it.
Have you heard anything over at Broadway Video to this effect or does your statement stem from speculation. Either way, I suspect you may be correct on this but I sure hope that we are both wrong. In addition to the manner in which season one was edited, I will be just as disappointed if 1980-85 are skipped over.
Hopefully there will be enough of a fan reaction to get them out there. I'm still hoping that the SNL: The 80s special gets a DVD release soon.
Do you happen to know what eras Lorne might be eyeing for release? I know there are a few seasons under his helm that he isn't too particularly fond of.
Then again, he hated the Louise Lasser show and that was included in season 1 so...
