I've been reading "Live From New York" (a pretty interesting book) and I got to wondering which characters showed up the most. So I did some research, and here's what I found.

    24 - Emily Litella
    19 - Wayne's World, Hans & Franz, Tommy Flanagan
18 - Mary Katherine Gallagher, Pat Stevens, Marty & Bobbi
17 - Cheerleaders, Stuart Smalley, Roseanne Roseannadanna
    16 - Mango, Church Chat
    15 - Coffee Talk
14 - Samurai, Ladies Man, Dr. Jack Badofsky
    13 - Bees
12 - Sprockets, Master Thespian, Margaret Jo & Terry (NPR), Todd & Lisa (nerds)
11 - Nick the lounge singer, Celebrity Jeopardy
10 - Buckwheat, Fernando, The Whiners, Tonto Tarzan Frankenstein, Operaman
9 - Mr. Robinson, Toonces, The Joe Pesci Show, Super Fans, Matt Foley, Morning Latte, Richard Laymer ("making copies"), Roxbury guys
8 - Gumby, Coneheads, Ed Grimley, Mr. Subliminal, Queen Shenequa
7 - Goth Talk, Roger & Virginia, Grumpy Old Man
6 - Goat Boy, Gap girls, The Continental (Christopher Walken), Nat X, Zoraida the NBC page, Willie & Frankie, Dion Dion
5 - Velvet Jones, Canteen Boy, Simon, Nick Burns (tech support)
4 - Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, Stuart Rankin (All Things Scottish), Cajunman, Nathan Thurm, Jackie Rogers Jr.

Make of that what you will. Let me know if I've missed any, I'm sure I have.

Don't remember the character's name, but did you include Rob Schneider's guy near the Xerox machine that just said everybody's name annoyingly?

    Martin, the Martin-meister..., that thing.

The "making copies" guy was Richard Laymer, 9 appearances.

Also, I just remembered Mr. Subliminal - 20 appearances. Although only 8 of those were as "Mr. Subliminal", the rest were Kevin Nealon as himself, giving subliminal news reports.

EDIT: And more... Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, 4. Roxbury guys, 9.

    Continental, 6.

I don't recall the "love-making professors"... who and what are they?

Will Ferrel and Ratchel Dretch play the couple who are always describing their love-making and talking about people's "lovers" (in the hot-TUB).

Also how about Ferrel as Alex Trebek doing celebrity Jeopardy?

Oh, okay... I was just reading about that in the book, but I don't think I've ever seen one of those (I don't watch it much these days).

    Roger & Virginia: 7
Celebrity Jeopardy: 11 (including 6 with Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery)

Mike Meyers did a bit where he was a hyper kid tethered to monkey-bars.

    "I love you, you know."
    "I know."

I'm pretty sure they did that a few times.

Oh, and speaking of Mike Myers, he also did a kid in a bathtub. Simon? or some such.

I know this isn't the Software forum, but I was just thinking recently about how good it would be to have a complete "Wayne's World" DVD collection to go alongside the movies. Looking at this list, there are several that would be cool to see that way, but I doubt that would ever happen.

As far as I can find, Phillip the hyperactive kid was only on twice, with Nicole Kidman and Kim Basinger.

Simon I already did, he was on 5 times.

Mr. Short-Term Memory was on 3 times.

What about Dan Aykroyd as Leonard Pinth-Garnell (I think that's what it was), the host of Bad Cinema/Theater etc. (it changed from sketch to sketch)??

Or Aykroyd & Steve Martin as the Festrunk brothers ("Wild & Crazy Guys")?

    I gotta get that book!!

I liked all but one in varying degrees. The hated one is Goat Boy. Rather than funny I found it nauseatingly bad.

What about the Candy Gram Shank (Chevy Chase). I know he used a lot in the begining and has appeared again recently. Also, does Mr. Bill count due to his appearences in the eariler days?

http://snlarc.jt.org/char/index.phtml Lists almost all characters that have appeared more than once... and there's a lot more. There appears to be a pretty amazing cataloge of information on that site actually.

Father Guido Sarducci appeared 28 times, which would top the list.

Sorry if that ruined anyone's fun.

Wow, I had no idea the good Father appeared so many times!

    Man, I love that character.

Ah, I wish I'd found that site earlier. Although IMO they should put characters who only appeared twice in a separate section.

    There's a bunch that I should have remembered. How'd I forget Pat?

What about Rachel Dratch as the Girl With No Gaydar? That's been on a few times and it's pretty funny
