Smallville Season 1 Poor PQ (1 Viewer)

I just started in on Smallville S1 and am quite dissapointed with the PQ. I realize the amount of "grain" is usually a creative decision, but it just seems as if the bitrate is too low. Even the mediocre Stargate SG-1 early seasons sets look superior on my monitor.

I'm wondering why the PQ is so poor?

I really enjoy the show so I already commited to purchasing subsequent seasons. Does S2 look any better?

At any rate I purchased this months ago and don't think the retailer would replace it. If anyone can indeed confirm a bad batch, is Warner doing replacements?
