Smallville DVD boxset - what is the quality like? (1 Viewer)

To those who already own this set, can you tell me what the quality is like? I remember reading that I have heard I think there are problems?


Would anyone mine confirming for me what the quality is like and mention if there are any problems??

There seems to be a bad batch floating around, but if you get the good version the quality is generally excellent.

On my small screen, it looks very nice. On bigger screens, I understand there is a bit of graininess here and there, but I haven't heard of anything show-stopping (with the exception of those who reported getting sets with the episodes recorded twice).

About the only problem I had with the set was the fact that you only have the option to Play All, or you have to go to the chapter listing for each episode to start it individually. It's not that it isn't laid out nicely--you go to a page with all four of the disc's episodes listed--but I basically had to avert my eyes so the chapter titles and screenshots didn't give anything away. Like I said, not a huge deal, and I found the set very much worth the money.

The extras weren't anything to write home about, I suppose, but I'm never very interested in extras anyway. So, I can't judge that.

Finally, there is a review of the set at the Digital Bits. It's about the only review I've seen so far, so that might be worth your time.

I did hear there was a bad batch around, are you able to provide more details?

Yeah, apparently some copies have the episodes encoded twice, once for the play all feature and once for the induvidual episode selections. This effectly halves the availiable disc space. Not having a bad copy myself, I'm not up on all the details, but I think the bad copies are mostly gone.

Basically, if your copy has heavy artifacting, get a refund and buy it from a different store.
