I am getting my daughter 4 monitor audio bronze 1's and a center channel. She is off to college and will be living in a studio apt. Needless to say, she doesn't need to be evicted for too many noise complaints. What would be a decent 8 inch sub that would add some warmth to the sound but not rattle the neighbors?

I have considered Velodyne, Paradigm, Mirage, Energy....any others? And where would be a real cheap place online to get something? I keep my eye on ebay, but how about a source with a consistent inventory?

Just get her a velodyn CHT10. It's a good, small sub for the money. However, you can never have to much bass. I have Klipsch towers in my small bedroom, with subs to come!:D

I'd go for a Rava and just tell her to keep the volume down. Even without the sub I'm sure the system would be able to get her in trouble.

Yes Matthew, you can have too much bass! At least when my name is on the lease and would be subject to the loss of deposits, etc.

Now my house is another story!!!!!! Can't wait for the SVS PC+ series to come out later this summer. My Monitor Audio SW210 only goes down to 22hz....need more bass!!!

Jerry, the Energy sounds good...is that the list price? Any cheaper places online?

If you can use a drill and a screwdriver then you might want to check out some of the kits from partsexpress, speakercity, or accousticvision as these are around three hundred plus but should more than satisfy for most occasion. It really doesn't matter what sub she ends up with it depends on how loud she, her friends when they come over, or boyfriend plays the system that will determine the eviction.

Try this one. I've installed this sub for friends who wanted a sub but really had a hard time getting the money for something on the next level.
Parts Express Sub
It's perfect for such an living space and when it's time to upgrade you can move this sub to your computer system.
Good Luck

I have a 15" Tempest and a crown CE1000 w/450W going to that monster in my 1BR apt. As long as you know when you can and can't turn it up, you'll be fine. It also depends on how much the neighbors complain about the noise.

Bruce and Jeff, thanks, but I haven't been able to control her for 18 years, I'm not sure I'll have any luck now. (who does she take after?)

Matrice, the DIY sub looks interesting...while I'm putting it togeter, any chance I can sneak a governor in there? A V-chip for decibils?
