Just curious how video/audio connoisseurs handle those occasional light scratches that occur when the disc is loose inside the box or from feeding the player and it brushes the edge. Does it affect the sound/image ever so slightly and cause you to replace them, does it start a slow deterioration process, if it has no obvious impact then you ignore it ?

DVD/CD have error correction and can usually handle small scratches etc on the disc. If it skips, freezes, or otherwise glitches at that location, then consider disc replacement if it's worth it to you.
