Elephant Films have announced on their Facebook page a Blu-ray HD release for The Six Million Dolar Man and The Bionic Woman series by the end of 2018! Elephant Films is a DVD and Blu-ray company in France that releases vintage movies and TV series from Universal. The two series will have French and English original audio. Knowing the company, subtitles will not be forced on the picture. They also claim to have clean masters for this release. I just can’t wait…

The current North American edition has second-rate prints and it shows drastically.
So it's good news.

Scroll down 20 publications. You'll find the news with a Six Million Dollar Man opening title video link to YouTube. They say they are working on the french subtitles for each episode. They say they believe to release The Bionic Woman at the same time period, which is december 2018.

Can you give the date of the publication, please? Thanks.

Sorry for that. Not always simple with FaceBook. The publication's date was August 24th 2017. I include a screen capture.

Hopefully the quality will be up to snuff and not just upscales of the old DVDs, regardless of what they're promising. I'm not gong to be getting my hopes up too much.

You probably don't read french, William, but in the comments section, a spokesman from Elephant says that the HD masters have nothing in common with the actual DVD release. They probably used 35 mm negatives. And my other concern is about the original audio soundtrack. Remember how season 2 DVD box set sounded like? The audio was muffled. Especially the dialog soundtrack, while the environment and music soundtracks were crystal clear, on many episodes. They blew it!

Ah, thanks for the information, I can't say French is my strong suit!

And yes, the audio is also a concern to me. The old DVDs certainly had their strengths (they were far and away better than the old tapes I had), including the awesome extras and packaging, but it would be great to have some high picture and audio quality, even if one has to import it from abroad.

one other potential for concern would be which prints they use for the "crossover" episodes. At least on the DVD releases, there were people involved (including on this very forum) consulting on the release to try to make sure, for example, that "Kill Oscar, part 2" was correctly assigned as a $6m Man episode rather than Bionic Woman. I just hope they have people familiar enough with the series acting at least in a consulting capacity to try to keep those kinds of mistakes from creeping in (and fixing some other mistakes that made it into the finished releases, such as some of the opening sequences on the first season set of Bionic Woman.

I remember a German company last year released a "Blu-ray" version of Bionic Woman that was not HD but SD recorded onto Blu-ray discs. So I'm always leery of these reports.

“Coming to Blu-ray" means little. HOW the HD is achieved is the real news. Scanning the negative is supreme - and highly unlikely considering the cost. The other ways, like scanning the original film prints or doing an up-res from the digitals, et al. But companies aren't keen on revealing their process - especially if it's not one of the higher forms.

Reading Elephant Films long comments section reveals them being coy about their HD sources. I'm skeptical.

The US DVDs (such as they are) were painstakingly arranged to reflect both series' original format, sequencing, and relationship to each other. I'm doubtful such consideration will be given again.

More info is definitely needed.

This will be interesting to watch. Note there is that Mark Wahlberg film (Six Billion Dollar Man) reportedly coming out sometime late in 2018 as well, so perhaps this Blu-Ray release is supposed to serve as spin off merchandise to support that project.

Of course I have ZERO faith in a revamped movie or series, because the Bionic Woman reboot quickly illustrated they don't understand what made those shows work - charm and chemistry. Mark Wahlberg is NO Lee Majors. That will never work. But I digress.

Hopefully a blu ray release will be properly done and worthy of a second purchase for me. Hopefully, this time, the price will be exceptionally smaller too. I have the Time Life box set and wouldn't trade it for anything. But a blu-ray version today has to service me on an entirely different level and reflect current prices for the series as it sells now. The novelty of it not being available is over.

Of course one last point worth mentioning. Lets be careful what we ask for. The Six Million Dollar Man was never a series intended for high definition, so the production gaffs will be glaring here. Perhaps we'll even see Big Foot's zipper in his fur? With the current box set, my childhood memories are preserved. Not sure what a blu ray picture will do to that. My fingers are crossed.

I don't have The Six Million Dollar Man (it's on the want list), but I can tell you even on SD DVD, you see things on The Beverly Hillbillies that would've been hidden well back in the day on a regular broadcast. Sometimes the sharper definition isn't worth the trade off.
