I was reading a blurb in Maxim.. They said that the David character in SFU is straight.
Is this true? If it is, that guy must have REALLY wanted the role. It's not like Will & Grace where it's all talk. Lots of man-on-man action on SFU...
Hmm.. I'm sounding homophobic, which I'm not at all. And he's my favorite character on the show. I'm just surprised a straight man would go for such a role, and get hired! He sure pulls it off, though.. I had no clue that he was straight..
    Maybe someone's in denial..
I'll stop talking now [IMG] No flames please!

    >>I actually wouldn't have a problem playing a gay guy on TV or something. It's not like a porno, it's tasteful, and not something I'd be ashamed of or anything.

I'd prefer that anyone who *is* gay, comes out. Then auditions for gay roles. I think a lot of the straight actors are doing a great job - honestly I do. Still.... if you are queer, it's great to know you are connecting with a character on more than one level. I hope that makes some sense.

And just like the good ol' heterosexual world, sometimes it would be nice to just daydream, on a lustful level. *smile*

I think another difference for me is: a program like Six Feet Under treats its audience as adults. A program like Will & Grace doesn't even need "being gay" as a catalyst - the characterization of Will isn't fair to anyone. He's pretty much a dry fart. At least the character of Jack is written a bit more honestly.

Lastly - thanks to "an apparently straight" *grin*, BC resident for starting this thread.... I'm in Vancouver.

Good points, all. Except for the Brenda being likeable [IMG]
She's way too smug and self-rightous, not to mention a hypocritical whore.. I hope they stop writing her into a corner soon, cause as it is I just want to reach into the TV and choke the life out of her!!
When does the 3rd season start?

    >>>It's a big deal to get a role on any TV series, especially one on HBO. Michael C. Hall is now more famous than he ever was before.

Yes, everyone is great. Even Ruth, although many find her annoying. But Nate is a great actor. I love the way Rico gets so excited about his work. Keith and David are both very good. I liked Nikolai a lot. I didn't care too much for Hiram. I also liked Gabriel.

Can't wait for the new season to start, whenever that may be (March, eh? Oh well...). Like most, I hate the Brenda character. I just watched "The Rookie" last night for the first time, where the same actress plays Dennis Quaid's wife. Hated her in that, too!! I think it's her smart-alec smirk that makes me dislike her so much, and she'll carry that same face to every role she plays.

I'd love to see Ruth hook up with another guy, someone other than Nikoli or Hiram. Hiram is waaaaaay too boring and Nikloi is just too rough around the edges.

I sure hope we haven't see the last of Mitzi Dalton-Huntly. She was a great character. Maybe Nate could hook up with her!! LOL!!

And it will be interesting to see how things might change with Rico being part owner now.

Yes, I should qualify that statement. I'VE never watched "the sheild". Not more than 15 min, anyway.. Nobody I asked had either seen it either.
But what do we Canadians know? [IMG]
I still stand by my statement that Micheal C Hall should have walked away with an award, regardless of the competition.

If you had seen The Shield you probably would agree that Michael Chiklis deserved that Emmy. His performance was just intense. I can't wait for the second season of The Shield, as well as Season 3 of Six Feet Under.

Michael C. Hall is great on 6FU but I'd have a hard time choosing either him or Peter Krause from that show. I think they both are fantastic.

However, I recently watched The Shield's 13 episodes on a marathon and Chicklis literally blew me away. I was never familiar with his work before and I am such a fan now. In another actor's hands, you might hate his character but he somehow makes you root for him even when you cringe at some of the things he does. I don't know what it is: he's short, bald, and not that attractive but he has such an intense confidence about him that is very intoxicating.

Michael C. Hall plays a VERY convincing gay man. This could be the writing, the direction, or just his talent. I find his relationship with Keith to be very beleivable.
    Both men are straight.
I think that's just wonderful, that both actors can get to the root of their character when that part of them is not held in common.
Their heterosexuality is no great loss to me, I've never had any television or movie star banging down my door, so why would it start with them [IMG]?

Well, what do I know? [IMG]
Hopefully they put out a dvd, and I can see for myself if the Sheild is any good..
Heck, I passed on 24, too. And by the time I saw it was pretty damn good I was hopelessly lost!

What? They're BOTH gay? In all of Hollywood they couldn't find 2 gay men? Wow.

That's either a testement to both their acting abilities, or the director must have made a point NOT to hire gay men for a different, non-steriotypical kind of portrayal of that kind of a relationship.. Which couldn't be, because you'd assume the opposite would be true. How are non-gays supposed to relate to gay guys, really? Or IS this a steriotypical portrayal? It seems pretty real to me, but then, I'm not gay.

Anyone on the other side of the fence care to weigh in?

Oh, and let me know if I'm stepping on any toes.. I'm not being sarcastic here at all. I'm honestly intrigued.

Considering how good they are at acting (in general) I think they were hired for that reason, not because they were straight. Honestly, I think they're not portraying "gay" guys, they're portraying people, just like everyone else on the show. These are people, regardless of the labels, and they play them very well.
