I have to say the only single thing redeeming this season is the Intern. He's the only character whose not sleepwalking thru this season. I guess Ruth might be another. Great stuff with Silent Running. If only the other plots could keep up. If this season still turns out to be a dream I would still think it's a missed opportunity to see nate recovering from his operation, to see that mold him into a new man and heal the rift between him a Brenda. If only they could have some spark this year.
It's been dissapointing so far.

I echo your sentiments Dave. I long for scenes with Brenda. I hate the other chick. She sucks.

The intern will eventually dismember Rico and the other "monsters upstairs" will find out he's a psycho.:D This guy is too much. I enjoy his scenes.

While I don't hate Lily, I found myself asking "did Rachel Griffiths quit SFU?" and "Why are you watching this?" It was deadly dull. What's worse is that I've been assuming all along that Ball and company are going to pull some rabbit out of their hat -- something that will salvage this season. I don't think that I believe that any more. I can't help but wonder if this is all their is.

The LOL moment of this episode was when "Silent Running" was over, and the intern turned off the tape, and a porn movie came on the TV that had the intern diving for the remote to change the channel. OMG, that was funny given both the intern's and Ruth's reaction to the porno.

Nate's not mentally strong enough to throw Brenda off the mountain ... yet.

The rest of it was sort of hohum, even with the super-heavy corpse with the flattened face in the viewing room.

Did I miss an episode? When the hell did Vanessa's mother die?? It seems like that would have been a major opportunity to further develop Rico's character.

Sooner or later Russell will snap and kick the crap out of the art professor. And then Russell will finally admit that he's gay. The intern is a total gas, but the rest of the cast and story lines are very ho hum.

** Editorial Mode On** Why is that that every major plot line in this series has a gay undercurrent?? Homosexuality is NOT as prevalent in America as this series would have the viewer believe. **Editorial Mode Off**

Because the creator is gay? I have no problem with it...and this show doesn't take place in average "America", it takes place in L.A.

But, the truth is, this season is putting me to sleep. Please, someone salvage this thing!

Not only that but the show is not supposed to be a microcosm of all of america, it follows one family, one of the members of which is gay and another that is attending art school. Of course there would be some interaction with other gay people. The family owns a funeral home so there is interaction with dead bodies. I don't know about anyone else but I don't run across the dead on any regular basis, certainly less often than I interact with gay people.

I thought this was the best episode this season. Maybe I'm enjoying this season because I'm not sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the operation thing to come around.

I don't even think about it.

I thought last night was great. I expect that Nate is going to have problems in the future with Brenda and Lisa. And as much as he tries, I think him and Lisa will split, just two different people.

Was the intern playing with action figures when ruth came in the room with the movie? It looked like he had a king kong or something and was sitting on his bed. What a wierdo, he's great!

It was also great when the body fell, and the intern was like "oh I didn't know you were entertaining" to claire.

When nate killed the snake was hilarious, it's like dead, but he continues to pulverize it.

Lisa drives me batty. She is so controlling and anal - ugh! The Brenda dream was great. I also liked the contrast with the other couple on the camping trip - especially the bit where Nate and the other guy agree on a number of intense feelings but with Nate it stems from Maya whereas with the other guy it's his wife. The intern is a hoot.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I'm really dig'n this season so far.

I like all the new characters: The intern, the art teacher and Russell.

Plus my two favorite charcters (Ruth and Clair) are getting more air time.:)

I too am loving this season so far... Certainly some laugh out loud moments last night.

As for Lisa, I don't really like her, but Nate is only getting what he asks for. He keeps consoling Lisa and agreeing to do things because he thinks he should, rather than because he feels he should. He's not been honest with Lisa from the beginning.

Not that I'm totally taking Lisa's side. She has issues, but I don't think she's the bad guy here. A person on another site thought that Lisa would turn out to have lied about Nate being Maya's father or manipulated him somehow... I suppose it's possible, but I don't see it that way.

Oh, and my speculation based on the promo for next week's episode...Perhaps KEITH is not as gay as we think.

Quentin and Lee - You're absolutely right, it is only about a single family, and it is set in LA. Is Alan Ball gay (genuine question)? If so, that would explain a lot - to me, anyway.

I think the biggest suspense in this season for me will be, "When will Nate wake the f*&k up and dump Lisa like a bad habit?"

I know this is like, a year after the actual airing of this episode, but I wanted to point a few things out.

First off, I thought Alan Ball was married? Did I miss something?

Secondly, homosexuality may not seem that prevalent in America, but I can't go through a single day without some trace of it popping up in my life, and I'm not talking about because of my doing (I'm gay, so one could argue that...). It just something that is dealt with. I can't really see how it's being "crammed" down out throat with the 3rd season.

lastly, what was up with the nosebleed lady? She really had NO part in the episode whatsoever. I mean, it was really hard to watch and well done, but usually the dead body has SOME type of connection to the episode, this one didn't.

Yeah, well, they're rerunning the 3rd season before season 4 starts... so I thought I'd bring a little bit of this up again, this is the first time I'm seeing this season. I don't know how the last 7 episodes turn out, but while the quality doesn't seen quite up to par with the last 2 seasons, I don't think the show is nearly as bad as it's being made out to be.
