Yes the Kasem countdowns on the 70s channel are fun.
OMG. They are SO GOOD! Casey was a true phenomenon for this teenage "I'm gonna be a broadcaster" kid!

Plus to hear the songs of your youth (some of which are nearly forgotten and some of which are entirely forgotten! LOL) is a bonus.

So much fun!

I was wondering if they also aired on the 80s channel (but I'm much more a creature of '70s music).

I've not heard them on the 80's channel. They do countdowns of the Billboard charts from that era, but it's by the MTV VJ's that host the channel on Sirius, not Kasem.

We do have a local FM radio channel that broadcasts an old Kasem countdown on the weekend.

I'm actually in your neck of the woods this week, Malcolm--Milton and Burlington to be precise.

When Peg was in high school up here CHOM was THE station to listen to! :D She still talks about it.

Glad you're up north where the flooding impacts were mostly minimal.

The station that plays the Kasem classics on the weekend is Rutland's WJJR. I'm not sure I ever listened to CHOM. I grew up in the boondocks of eastern Vermont, often listening to WBLM from Maine which was received much clearer than anything from Burlington or Montreal. Same with TV where our clearest channel (via roof antenna) was WMTW from Portland, Maine.

But....EVERY SINGLE HOTEL ROOM IN BURLINGTON/SOUTH BURLINGTON/COLCHESTER, etc. is taken by FEMA workers! Not kidding. We could not get a room anywhere. I have never traveled (admittedly, I don't travel all that much) and haven't been able to find a room somewhere. Every place said the closest room they could find was in Plattsburgh.

Crazy!

I'm pretty sure I've heard Casey doing the 80s countdowns on Sirius as well.

I'd imagine. Most of the hotels still open in the flood zone are probably filled with local people who had to leave their homes, and most of the FEMA people and other help would be flying into Burlington and probably stayed in that area. I know they've been staging some things out of Berlin, but that is a smaller airport with limited support resources nearby.

If you love Casey Kasem, download the free iHeart Radio app. There is an entire AMERICAN TOP 40 CLASSICS channel that plays nothing but the Countdowns from the 70s and 80s all day long.

I already had the app, Ron. But didn't know about that channel. Thanks!

I spent a few days painting in the house this past week and enjoyed the various countdowns to which I listened. So much fun.

Sure!

I listen to Casey Kasem in my car all the time thanks to that app and channel.

I don't believe he is currently featured on 80s on 8
The countdowns on the 80s channel are done with the current DJs- Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, and Alan Hunter. They do a decent job with providing info, but the Kasem countdowns are better.

Agreed. I am aware of the Big 80s countdown which has none of the charm of the original Casey Kasem countdowns.

Those old MTV VJs had to go somewhere...
Bah. Martha Quinn (a fellow 64-year old native of Albany, NY) was the only veejay to watch!

I was an "early adopter" of MTV. I have many fond memories of those early years. But I am more a product of the music of the '70s.

Martha's "64" doesn't look anything like my "64:"

She has aged well. Not too long ago, the 80s channel brought her in as a guest- might have been for the 40th anniversary of the launch of MTV.

I’ve had SirusXM off in my car for the past 9 months. They repeatedly played the same songs on the Rock channels, and I grew tired of it. So for the last year they’ve been trying to woo me back. Today, they offered a deal that I could no longer pass up. $4 a month for 12 months. I actually got it more for my wife than myself. She’s not really into my classic rock CD collection, so when she’s in the car now, I can just throw on a soft rock station, and she’ll be happy.
