I have a dual disc album and And I am thinking about getting some more .

My current HT setup is a HTIB with simulated surround and one of the audio tracks availible is Dolby 5.1 I want to experience true surround. is ist worh upgrading to a better HTIB or buy nothing at all.

its either that a used sub and receiver. (I have some old bookshelf speakers but they are low watt.)

I have heard about singing voices being relegated to the center channel on a true surround setup with such multi channel music disc.

will I notice much difference with a system that offers true surround?

should I not even bother?

Can you explain what exactly you have now?

If you have a genuine HTIB, I don't understand why you wouldn't already have true surround. ??

its one of those ones where the satalites connect to the subwoofer via speaker terminals and it only has white and red RCA ins on the back.

It does have a "channels" button thal allows it to go from 2.1 to "5.1"

I think it way be Donbu pro logic 1 or something like that.

The Sub is sapposed to be the A/V center even though it has no built in tuner.

The model is Durabrand HT3917


It has a powered sub so I may be dissapointed with some of the HTIB's that have a passive sub with a bigger driver.

Let me guess. You got it at Wal-Mart.

Probably just not worth the trouble. The models I have seen like this are almost unusable and completely incapable of actual surround. They are really just some form of dolby surround, not discrete.

Yeah...........I think Wal Mart sells them for $69 for the system.
I'd go buy a better setup....

It depends on how much you are willing to spend. I've been very pleased with the performance of some of the Onkyo HTIBs I've set up for clients and friends. They are genuine receivers unlike other HTIBs so you can attach whatever you've got to them like consoles, computers, tape players, etc. They don't have a built in DVD player, though. I've also been very pleased with what Denon's offering in some of their HTIBs. To make sure we are talking the same language I'm saying between $300-$600 here.

The difference in having real surround speakers is like night and day. It sounds way better. There's really no comaparison. Simulated surround just doesn't replace it at all. And also with a genuine receiver setup like what Onkyo and Denon offer in their HTIBs you can get a BluRay or DVD-Audio player and hear your DualDisc in the higher quality format stored on it (Meridian Lossless Packing as opposed to Dolby Digital).

Yeah I know that to get better surround you have to pay $$$$$

I do have an old center channel and some bookshelf speakers laying around.

there are some pawn shops with som surprisingly newer HT receivers by Yamaha, Sony, RCA,onkyo, and techwood.
