    See the article here.
It's nice to see that The Simpsons are offending people again. [IMG] You just cannot buy this kind of publicity. Word is that the "South Park" producers are quickly assembling an episode for which they hope they will be sued by tourism officials from Monaco. [IMG]

When I watched this episode last week I thought for sure someone was going to bitch. The fact that it's the city of Rio makes it even better.

On a side note, you don't think the city is just doing this for publicity?

[heavy sarcasm]I am shocked at your suggestion that tourism officials from a major city would do something for publicity.[/heavy sarcasm]

Well, there's another episode never to be seen until the latter half of this decade when the later episodes make their way to DVD. Glad I got it on tape (as I have with every episode since December 17, 1989).

I think this is stupid. If the animals weren't running around wildly and the cops weren't lazy, then they wouldn't have made fun of them for it.

What Riotour really needs to do is help us with our STOP program - STerilization Of stupid People.

Riotour can help us find all of the people that will rely on a satirical, animated, television show to develop their opinions about the people and places of a foreign country. Then they can help us sterilize these people to prevent them from breeding and spreading their genes.

This is going to be a really dumb question, but how can a non-US entity like Rio Tourism sue using the American court system?

Will the episode be pulled? Surely not.

Gee, I wonder why the Australian or Japanese governments never sued the Simpsons' producers after their countries were portrayed in a less than flattering light on their show.
I still remember the Japanese prime minister being thrown by Homer into a bin of sweaty sumo loincloths. [IMG]

I don't think there's any chance that all the seasons of The Simpsons will ever make it to DVD. By the time we get past seasons 5 or 6 a high definition format should be here. That means starting back at season 1 again.

Having traveled does that mean we can sue all of the things on TV and screens abroad that insult Americans. Tit for Tat should be correct. Each country I have ever been in has either an animated or live comedy that does that usually daily. So that has been one of the reasons I always laughed at the Simpson's trips, it made me feel like it was our turn for a rare change and many times really hit as an exagerated version of something I had seen.

With beliefs that Hollywood represents American life and what I have seen on TV in other nations, it is little wonder that they understand us as little as it is claimed we understand them.
