Hi,

I've just converted my garage into living space and would like to set up a home cinema system with a projector.

Sadly, the construction work has really hit me hard in the bank account and so I'm trying to find a way to achieve my aim by using what I've got and/or keeping expenditure down.

What I'd like to do is take four feeds (digital tv box, PS4, satellite tv, desktop computer, all of which are HDMI feeds) into a projector for the visual part and maybe use the existing sound bar (which I bought with my tv) for the sound.

I understand that usually with a projector, the feeds will be taken to an AV receiver which then sends out a signal to the projector and the sound out to 6 or 7 speakers and a subwoofer. To be honest, I can't be bothered with all of the cables and hassle attached to that many speakers, so I think the sound bar solution will work best for me.

So my question is: Is there a box equivalent to an AV receiver that will take my four feeds and split the signal for the projector and the sound bar?

Also, I need to get the HDMI signal from the box to the projector, but I haven't buried any cables in the wall to do this. I'm thinking about using one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8...d=kwd-305283861791&ref=pd_sl_1d6b9o9gg8_e_p28

So far, my costs are: projector (est.), £600, transmitter/receiver, £200, AV receiver or equivalent box, not sure.

Am I missing anything obvious?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

A soundbar can replace the AV receiver. All you need is one that has enough HDMI inputs for all your sources, with the appropriate output that your projector requires.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks, I will investigate. Do you have any experience of the HDMI transmitter/receivers?

I'm concerned there may be lag or other quality issues with them.

My system is HDMI-free, so I have no experience with those things. Those devices operate on the crowded 240 gHz frequency range and will be prone to interference from all kinds of stuff. Best to just run a cable rated for in-wall use.

It's always best to run a single cable or set of inputs to your display, projector, flat panel, whatever. The only thing that may be an issue is the length of HDMI cable you're running, but as long as you stick to runs less than 50 ft, you should be OK. I doubt you'll be using any more than 25 ft.
