Just need to verify something....If I go the prepro route and get a receiver that has say 50 x 5 and get a power amp that does 250 x 2 then I will get 250 x 2 and 50 x 3 correct? Or will I be able to combine the receiver power with the power amp power for 300 x 2 and 50 x 3?

If your using the amp for 2ch then you combo would be:

    Fronts: 200W each
    Center: 50W
    Rears : 50W each

Which is no problem. Now if you plan on using it for HT you could run into a problem with panning and overall balancing of the front soundstage. The center channel does a good 70% of the info in a HT. So to pump 50watts into it while pushing upwards of 200watts into the FL, FR, may run you into the situation of not enough power for the center. The center could clip, sound strained, etc. If you plan on using your setup for HT mostly look at a good 3channel amp to power the fronts and center and leave the receiver for the rears.
