Direct from the press release announcing the upcoming DVD of Shrek on 11/2/01.
"Exclusive never-before-used technology that enables viewers to voice their favorite character"
I am having a hard time conceiving of how this technology will work. Somehow, there will need to be an interface for our voices to be uploaded to the DVD. But how?
And how will this work across so many types, combinations, and levels of home entertainment systems. From the guy with a 13 inch Magnavox TV with a tiny TV speaker to the mammoth home theaters on the cover of Audio Video Interiors magazine?
    Confused,
    Hector

I believe this is for PC's with DVD-Roms. You use a microphone connected to your PC's sound card to speak into and it probably records the track on your PC.

    Bummer.
If that's the case, I'm not that excited then. I don't have a PC and, consequently, no DVD-ROM.
But that makes a lot more sense if this is indeed how it's supposed to work.

"The Shrek DVD also introduces Shrek's ReVoice Studio featuring a never-before-used DVD-ROM technology that lets the viewer become the actor. The program enables viewers to select from 12 of the film's most popular scenes and record the lines of the characters. It then syncs up their voice with the character's mouth. The viewer can also view the scene and see how their performance as the voice of Shrek, Donkey, Fiona or Farquaad plays!"
DVD-ROM, on a PC, as stated.

He's probably a Mac user. Refuses to use the term PC... I'm just assuming, though

I should have clarified. I don't have a PC at home, where I watch my DVDs.
I do all of my browsing and posting on my PC at work. Contributing to the economy, I know. Anyway, my PC at work does not have a DVD-ROM either.
    Sorry for the vagueness.

This is a waste of money for the company. What little 9year old boy or girl is going to know how to do all that crap. Please dont tell me you older guys are going to sit in front of your computer playing with Shrek.LOL.
I loved the movie and will get it for sure. But to change voices etc. Its a little overboard.
