I have a friend who finds psychological symbolism in Ed Wood films, so let's leave Plan 9, et al out of this list! [IMG]

No, I want to see the Bo Derek train-wreck, Bolero (1984, John Derek) on DVD! Man, that movie is so bad. Laugh? You'll bawl!

And why wouldn't a movie starring Sly Stallone and Dolly Parton be a masterpiece? Bob Clark's (Black Christmas, A Christmas Story, Porky's) 1984 'comedy', Rhinestone is sorely needed for sunday afternoons in February.

Endless Love (1981, Franco Zeffirelli) is an all-time favourite of mine. Watched it four times when I was off school with asthma! If it weren't for Brooke, I wouldn't have bothered, though! Slow, creepy and weird - well, it is Zeffirelli, but man, Brooke Shields made some bad movies in her youth. Ever see Brenda Starr? The movie where she did a De Niro and gained 20 pounds?! Hah! Great.

Any thoughts or other really BAD movies to add? Please, no horror or sci-fi, as it is harder to make a good fantasy film. But if you want to, go for it!

Gordon: How about Moment By Moment (1978) with Lily Tomlin and John Travolta? Easily the worst movie I've seen in the theater.

Travolta's character name was "Strip" and during scenes when Tomlin would moan his name "Strip....oh, Strip" the theater could not help but break into fits of giggles and then full-blown laughter. A classic cinematic moment for me.

Well, Manos: The Hands of Fate is on DVD, so anything is possible.

Now as fine a piece of work as Bolero is, in my opinion it can't compare to Ms. Derek's other classic, Tarzan the Ape Man co-starring Richard ("Feed me another flat") Harris. [IMG]

Well, you'll have to wait for a Sunday in March. The disc is out from Anchor Bay on 3/8.

Absolutely. Many bad movies have a great deal more entertainment value than the tripe we're being fed at the multiplex these days. Ones I want (and this is just the sci-fi stuff):

    NIGHT OF THE LEPUS
    FIRE MAIDENS FROM OUTER SPACE
    GREEN SLIME
    HORROR OF PARTY BEACH
    GIANT CLAW

    etc.

I've become familiar with the work of Pia Zadora through various books on bad movies and bad taste, and I now have this perverse need to see "Butterfly" and "The Lonely Lady" someday.

    Sincerely,

    John Kilduff...

    I love bad movies.

Seriously, guys, before your heads hit your pillows tonight, take comfort in this...Battlefield Earth got a dvd release.

There's hope for anything after that.

Ha! I saw a copy of Bolero on LaserDisc in my local aftermarket store recently. Looked pretty bizarre... I almost bought it just for that, but I came to the conclusion it would be [in a phrase my sister and I made up, regarding something else entirely, it may have been BARBARELLA] "like a porno, but with the good parts left out".

One of the movies I hate most not only got released on DVD, it was released as part of The Criterion Collection! I seriously think Slacker is one of the most hideous movies ever made. There's only one other movie I ever found as painful to watch, and I've seen a lot of movies.

Ok, I'll admit it: as a teen and adult, this film struck me funny.. "Budweiser you created a Mo-o-o-nster.. and they call me.. drinking-stein" Damn. It's so laughably terrible, you just have to roll along with it.. I love the use of Exotica music, a great added touch..

ABSOLUTELY there should be "bad" films on DVD. One man's junk is another man's treasure.

I REALLY want to retire my taped-from-Flix-VHS of AT LONG LAST LOVE!! Add that to the list--and, of course I'd need the extra Eileen Brennan number added for network and cable showings. [IMG]

Xanadu, with Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, was an early DVD from Universal and one of the first in my collection over five years ago.

Coming in March: a real "shipwreck" of an 80's musical, The Pirate Movie! I may just have to sneak out to the store in the middle of the night so no one sees me...

BTW--I honestly don't think there can be enough Bo Derek on DVD. :b

I think all films deserve a DVD release.

The only thing that bothers me is when I see companies like Universal release really good films pan & scan while at the same time they release crappy films in anamorphic widescreen. All films on DVD should be OAR, especially the good ones!

Hey, I really like Slacker. [IMG]

Speaking of awful films in the Criterion Collection, I can only say...Armageddon. Just thinking about that movie makes me angry...

Ummm, I know you didnt just say that A Christmas Story is one of the worst movies ever!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

As for your general question, how good a movie is, is a matter of opinion. I dont care how bad you may think a movie is, there is ALWAYS going to be someone that loves it. And likewise, no matter how much you like a movie, there will always be someone who hates it.
