I'm going to upgrade my speakers (maybe para. v3100s), but anyhow I'm convinced that I would benifit from a amp. Do I use denon 4800 as pre/pro or would I get better sound upgrading reciever as well?

The 4800 and 4801 have pretty stout amps, but for 100s I would say you would still benefit from additional amplification.

You will get better sound from most any decent pre vs the 4800. I am not knocking the 4800, just stating that a quality pre that does not have to accomodate an amp section, will more likely than not sound better, as well as the fact that pre-amps tend to be targeted towards a higher market than receivers. Is the improvement you get really worth what you will spend for it? I can't help you there.
