One more thing for everyone here - In the CA central valley it is not uncommon to go a month without seeing the sun either. Foggy and overcast. I used to drive up to the mountains just to get above the clouds and make sure it was still there. I suspect the Bay Area is the same, though I never lived there full time.
I live in the Bay Area and it would be very out of the ordinary for most of the region to go a month without seeing the sun. In certain parts of SF (the avenues) they can go a month without seeing the sun but that's San Francisco.

As for moving, it a tough call. If you were single I would say no but you have a family to support so you may have to settle in order to provide.

I agree with Patrick. Go where you have a job, get residency, and then start working on your EE degree part time in MI.

To me I'd rather have the job and the comfort that goes with it. Then you can think about your career choices while you have a job rather than worry about how to pay your bills and feed your family.

To me its a simple choice.. Move to Meeeeeeshegan err Michigan :)
