Hello- I am not an audiophile and I've been very happy with my old Onkyo HT-650 home theater 5.1 system for many years. Would there be any advantage (other then saving space and wireless technology) to getting a Polk Audio Soundbar system? The Polk system I am considering has a separate subwoofer and two speakers. Would the sound be comparable? As a senior, I am now looking for more clarity of sound in dialogue rather than theatrical special sound effects.

Onkyo actually has pretty good HTiBs, so I doubt it will be as good. I'm not sure you'll gain much other than a simpler system. However simpler is often more of a hassle because its capabilities are less flexible.

Be sure and check the Amazon reviews before you get a wireless soundbar, or at least make sure there is a generous return policy offered from wherever you buy it. Most of these products can’t muster better than about a 65% positive rating (which I attribute to 4 and 5 star reviews). Check the 1-star reviews and you typically see that the great majority of complaints are related to wireless reliability (or more precisely, the lack thereof).

Well I ended up ditching the Onkyo and gave to my daughter & her husband. I bought the Vizio M51 from Costco https://www.vizio.com/en/sound-bar/m-series/M51a-H6 & am pretty pleased with it. The surround sound is very good. I decided against the Polk- since the sound bar was much too wide at 43 inches for my tv stand. I think the Onkyo system sounded better overall with many more sound options- but living in a small townhome, I am appreciating the space saved and lack of numerous wires!
