I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-21 receiver powering the following speakers.

Polk Audio CS300 Center
Polk Audio RT35 Fronts
Polk Audio M3II Rears

I can't help but think that the amp in the Pioneer receiver isn't getting the best performance from the speakers. Would it make sense to add a 5ch amp to this setup? Do you think it would make much of a difference?

I would. I run a Pioneer elite VSX36 and I use 2 Carver amps. They sound better and give me more headroom.
