There is going to be a Best Buy built in my town and I'm considering applying to work there part-time for a little extra cash and also to see what retail is like. Any thoughts?

    1. Forget everything you know about HT. Sell Bose and earn rewards!

    2. the customer is always right.

    3. Be nice to your fellow employees.

    4. If a customer approaches you and says "I am intrested in some home thetaer equipment" followed by two obvious winks of his or her right eye, you know this is a fellow HTF member and you can skip your Bose spiel you save for Joe & Jane average.

Hmm...maybe it's not such a good idea after all. [IMG]

I've never had them push Bose at my local best buy. They really push monster cables and accessories tho. I heard the employee discount is pretty good, if your looking to upgrade it would probably be a good idea.

the employee discount is 5% above store cost, which works out to a few bucks off DVDs, significant discounts on car audio, and next to nothing on computers.

Go for it. I spent about a year working for Circuit City back when I was in part time looking to make a few extra bucks on the side mode and I thought it was great. They gave me money (not much, but that's ok I didn't need much). I got to play with ht equipment on the clock and I got so much gear with my employee discount (suggestion: stock up on speakers) that seven years later it still makes up most of my primary system.

    Ever have your gums scraped?

Seriously, I've met some of my best friends working retail. We'd probably even be closer friends if those damn customers didn't keep getting in the way!

I was at Best Buy with a friend of mine last week, they really do push monster cables pretty hard. Their margins on them must be huge. Cameron, what the hell, try it, worse that happens is you don't like it and quit. The best senario is that you spend your paychecks and then some on HT equipment. So what's the downside....
