One of my most favourite mini series along with The

Forsyte Saga.Does anybody have any inkling over at

Paramount if its even being considered for dvd release ?

From what I have heard the cost of a restoration makes it very unlikely that this will ever come to DVD.

Yes, I hate to verify the above post, but it's a fact.
Martin Blythe, a Vice President at Paramount, has been until recently a very active poster here at HTF. Just 3 months ago (early January) the topic of Shogun came up, and he said "No plans on Shogun. Last I heard the original materials were in terrible shape."
I replied: "That will make my wife so sad and upset. She's been quite looking forward to the day when we see this on DVD. Martin, do you think we should go dig up a VHS off of eBay or somewhere? Is it that hopeless?"
His reply was, "Get the VHS". :frowning:

I believe that eventually it'll be released on DVD, but it won't be for several years.

Martin had pretty much said the same thing about ST:TNG and the original material and they've done a great job of restoring it. So there is hope.

You can buy the "complete epic saga" on VHS from Amazon.com for "only" $224.95!
I'll pay maybe half that for the three-disc DVD set. Why won't VHS just hurry-up and die.

You might be interested to know that the Forsyte Saga

is being refilmed and should be the Fall season opener of

Masterpiece theater. It is expected that both versions

should be released around the end of the year on DVD.

Greg I saw your posting regarding The Forsyte Saga.

I was aware of the new version but I'm led to believe

its only half as long as the original.Now the original

series is very long and drawn out but oh so British and

not everyone is going to have the patience to sit through

it.

Now I was'nt aware of the original series coming out.

Is it going to be coming from BFS or Acorn Media ?

But that is definately excellent news for the US.

I love Shogun as well. I have an old dubbed VHS copy and the quality is terrible. I guess until we have it on DVD I'll just read the book again!

Isn't this out in R2 PAL somewhere? I thought I read that somewhere but the source escapes me at the moment.
