I recently heard that shiva drivers were great for the low price, is this true?

Most definitely. The Tempest is even better (if you can live with the necessary enclosure size) and the Dayton DVC 12" and 15" are no slouches either. You can easily build fantastic subs with any of these drivers.

THe shiva has an xmax of 15.8mm, good but there are better drivers out there. The MKII Titanic from parts express seems to be pretty good with an xmax of 17mm.

The Titanic requires a larger enclosure, costs a little more has a slightly lower Fs and has just over 0.3L more Vd. The difference between them is kinda like the difference between the SVS ISD and the CS+ driver.

For the cost of a Titanic driver I'd go with a Tempest or 15" Dayton DVC.

Any idea what dB advantage that equates to? Which drivers have you used that you like better?

Brook, it is true.

You don't list where you are located...With all the Shiva owners on this board I'll bet there is one close to you and you probably could check it out for yourself.

To my knowledge,

> xmax != > dB

or, a Higher xmax does not give out a directly proportional increase in dB.

For what thats worth,

I would also be more interested in Fs etc than xmax, I also agree a tempest or a dayton 15" would do you far better than a titanic.

For home theatre useage I agree, defientely a Tempest or 15inch DVC would be a better chocie, but if you really need the smaller box, my 12inch MK2's great in it's 1.75cf sealed box. The MLS test on my MK2 shows that the Fs is right about 20hz...pretty decent. And yup it's Dumax is 18.9mm
